$6,000 In Scholarships Awarded Through Buchanan Next Gen Jayco Scholarships

Caroline Buchanan and Jayco Caravans are pleased to award the 2016 “Buchanan Next Gen Jayco Scholarships” to Des’ree Barnes and Molly McGill.
The scholarship was awarded to the winners of the 14 and 15 girls age categories at the 2016 Australian National BMX Championships in Bathurst on the weekend.  Both Des’ree and Molly will receive $3,000 each to assist them to travel to the BMX World Championships in Colombia this year.

“’I am so pleased to see Des’ree and Molly race so hard on the weekend to not only be crowned Australian National Champions in their respective age categories but also bearers of the Buchanan Next Gen Jayco Scholarship.  They will gain a wealth experience at the World Championships which will help them develop into the Next Generation of BMX riders,” said Caroline Buchanan.

Des’ree Barnes claimed her sixth consecutive national title by winning the 14 girls race. The Beenleigh BMX club rider also received the Buchanan Next Gen Jayco Scholarship giving her the chance to race at the World Championships. “I put pressure on myself,” admitted Barnes. “I am really proud to win the scholarship. I just want to thank Caroline and Jayco Caravans. I plan to train more!”
The 15 girls national title went to Molly McGill from Ashmore BMX Club. It was the fourth title won by McGill but she did not have an easy run in the final. An early challenge came from defending champion, LorsynAffoo, but McGill stuck to her plan finishing first. “I was over the moon,” said McGill about her win and the scholarship. “This week has really boosted my confidence,” she added. From her base in the USA, Caroline Buchanan watched the girls every move.
“They are both Queensland girls and that state often dominates. We wanted the girls’ performances to pick themselves,” said Buchanan. The girls along with Buchanan will race in Medellin at the World Championships to be held in May.
